ABOUT
NEWEL
Newel, LLC is the largest and most extraordinary antiques resource in New York City. Housed in a six story building on East 53rd Street, Newel's collection of decorative arts and antiques encompasses 17th Century European Renaissance styles through mid-20th Century designs. This incredible antiques collection has attracted an international roster of interior designers and collectors.
Founded in 1939 by Meyer Newman as a “prop house” for Broadway shows, Newel is now owned and operated by 3rd generation family member, Lewis J. Baer. Newel still maintains a role as a major supplier of period antiques to the theater, motion picture and TV production industries. Going back to Broadway productions like the original “My Fair Lady”, Newel has supplied complete furnishings to movie sets for such films as "The Godfather" trilogy and "The Thomas Crown Affair", as well as TV productions such as "All My Children" and "Sex and the City". Newel’s inventory has also been proudly featured in window displays for fine retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman and Polo Ralph Lauren.
Newel is unique in the size and scope of its inventory, which includes traditional English, French and Italian 18th and 19th Century, as well as fine Biedermeier, Art Deco, and Bamboo antiques. In addition, Newel's vast collection is noted for its stock of many unusual and unique styles of antiques including Italian Grotto, Rustic/Black Forest, and Moorish, making Newel truly an experience to visit.
